A group of six carjackers that has been going around Baltimore City and stealing cars for several months has been caught, police said.
The suspects, who were all between the ages on 16 and 20, used various forms of assault, including physical abuse and weapon brandishing, police said.
Commissioner Kevin Davis assembled a specialized task force to put an end to the issue, and within the next few days the carjacking stopped, police spokesman T.J. Smith said in a press conference on Monday.
The group faces a variety of charges, including carjacking, auto theft robbery and possibly more, police said.
Smith said detectives will be adding more suspects to the case in the coming weeks.
The suspects would gently bump into cars on purpose and pretend that the bump was an accident, police said. Police said that when drivers got out of the vehicles to assess the damage, the hijackers would threaten the drivers into giving them their cars.
