A man killed his girlfriend early this morning before turning the gun on himself during a four-hour standoff with police in Halethorpe, authorities said.

Police said they recovered the body of the woman in the front of the house at about 10:45 a.m. They said they made contact with the man inside the house and tried unsuccessfully to convince him to give up.

The male suspect was discovered lying dead on the floor of the house at about 1:30 p.m. from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.

The murder-suicide incident began at 8:49 a.m. when Baltimore County police responded to an assault call at a home in the 4400 block of Fenor Road.

While police were in route they received information that an armed male at the home had shot a woman. Police set up a perimeter around the house shortly after arriving.

The names of the man and the woman were not released as of today.

Baltimore County Police are currently investigating the incident at the home as a murder-suicide.
