Man arrested for May 2015 fatal shooting

A 38-year-old man was arrested last week for a May 2015 shooting in Baltimore City that left one man dead, police said.

Fred Whiting III of the 1800 block of Walbrook Avenue was charged with first-degree murder and is currently in the Baltimore Central Booking and Intake Center, police said.

Police said the shootings occurred on May 19, 2015 at 11:45 p.m. at the 500 block of North Pulaski Street.

The victim was 42-year-old Michael Smith, who resided in the 5900 block of Western Run Drive. Smith suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the body. In addition, police said a 49-year-old unnamed woman also suffered gunshot wounds to the leg and arm during the incident.

The victims were transferred to shock trauma, according to police. The woman survived, police said, but Smith died soon after of his injuries.

After further investigation, the police identified Whiting as the suspect and obtained a warrant for his arrest.
