Baltimore County police will be wearing mourning bands on their badges today in honor of a fellow officer who died 16 years ago.
Sgt. Bruce Prothero was killed Feb. 7, 2000, during a robbery at a Pikesville jewelry store where he worked as an off-duty security officer, police said. He was a 12-year veteran on the Baltimore County Police Department at the time.
Prothero had a wife and five children.
