Homicide suspect extradited to Maryland

Deidra Griffin Booking PhotoThe prime suspect in a July homicide in Randallstown has been extradited to Maryland and is awaiting trial, police said.

Deidra Veella Griffin, 40, is being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center, police said. Michigan police arrested Griffin in July. She had been in a relationship with the victim while she lived in Maryland, police said.

The original police report states that Baltimore County police responded to a home in the 4300 black of Travancore Road in Randallstown on July 1 at 7:57 p.m. The caller had not heard from the victim and wanted police to check his house, police said.

Lonnie Bernard Paye Jr., 51, was found dead on the floor with at least one gunshot wound, police said.

By July 22 police had obtained an arrest warrant for Griffin. The charges were for first-degree murder and handgun violations, police said.

Griffin and Paye have a child together, but police said Griffin had moved to Michigan less than a year ago when she was pregnant There had been a custody dispute in Michigan involving the boy, police said.

John Wachter, a spokesperson for the county police department, said in an e-mail that there is no word on what happened to the couple’s son.

The Michigan police also recovered more evidence for the homicide investigation during her arrest, Baltimore County official said.
