A Baltimore County man was arrested Monday after police say he caused an eight-vehicle crash on York Road in Hunt Valley that left six people injured, including one who is in critical condition.

Robert Earl Shoulders, 71, of Quiet Stream Court was charged with driving while suspended, driving without a license, and failure to control speed to avoid a collision, police said. Shoulders is being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center on $5,000 bail.

Police said one victim was transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he remains in serious condition.

One woman was taken to Sinai Hospital for treatment while four others who were in her BMW 325, including on juvenile, were transported to area hospitals, police said. Police did not know the condition of the woman or the other occupants.

Police said Shoulders was driving a 2009 Nissan Murano north on York Road when he struck the rear of the 2011 Jeep and the side of the BMW 325. This caused a chain reaction involving the other vehicles, police said.
