Baltimore County experienced massive power outages and a spate of road closures during the latest round of winter weather.
Approximately 24,438 BGE customers were without power in Baltimore County, theutility company reported at 5:30 a.m. Thursday.
On Wednesday, more than 43,000 people in Baltimore County were without power.
As trees fell, blocking various roads, many closures went into effect. Baltimore County Public Works reported that by 5:20 p.m. Wednesday, some roads were still closed as a result of fallen trees.
According to county officials, 100 trees went down in Baltimore County, with many concentrated in Reisterstown (14 trees down), Parkton (11), Catonsville (10), Lutherville (nine) and Monkton (seven).
Baltimore County Closings, Delays
On Thursday, Hereford Zone schools open two hours late.
In addition, the following schools are closed due to power outages:
- Sparks Elementary
- Powhatan Elementary
- Reisterstown Elementary
- Fifth District Elementary
- Hampton Elementary
- Hereford Middle
- Millbrook Elementary
- Old Court Middle
- Pikesville High
- Riderwood Elementary
- Warren Elementary
WEDNESDAY:
Baltimore County Public Schools canceled school on Wednesday.
CCBC Catonsville was closed until 4:30 p.m. due to a power failure. All other campuses planned to open by 11 a.m.
Baltimore County government offices open at 10:30 a.m.
The Hereford and Reisterstown branches of Baltimore County Public Library are closed due to power outages. There were downed trees near the Reisterstown branch.
All other library branches will open at 10 a.m. Baby and preschool morning programs are canceled at libraries Wednesday. See more at Patch.
